The markets around the city offer a wide selection of
goods to choose from. One of the most sought-after
items of Calcutta is its handicrafts, including the
Tant saris, the specialty of West Bengal, hand-woven
works, silk, and jewelry.
Cuisine
Calcutta offers a wide variety of food, from
traditional Bengali cuisine to international cuisines
like Chinese, Thai, and Mexican. Bengali cuisine is
famed for various fish dishes and its sweets. Eatery
sites in Calcutta vary from the food stalls on the

Festival
The most important festival of the West Bengal
State is Durga Puja of which celebration is centered
at Calcutta. This five-day-festival is set to
celebrate the ten-armed goddess Durga. Also of
interest, Rathayatra, organized by ISKCON
(International Society of Krishna Consciousness), is
Lord Jagannath's Car festival.
